About the Author
Michael Wilcox has a varied background, including periods as a professional artist, a conservator of art works and an engineer, which in turn led to a study of light physics in relation to the needs of the artist. His studies led to the book Blue and Yellow Don't Make Green. Published in English, Dutch, Japanese, Korean and Chinese, this book has changed the way that countless artists now mix and use their colours. This publication was followed by The Wilcox Guide to the Finest Watercolour Paints which has led to many of the changes in the pigments used in artists' paints today. Specialist mixing palettes, workbooks and courses were then developed and the School of Colour was formed on an international basis.

Excellent read! I intend to keep this as a permanent addition to my library. It fundamentally broadened my understanding of how colour works. It contains brief guide references to colour mixing in various media including watercolour paint, pencil crayons, gouache, and pastels, but its main emphasis in oil paint. Wilcox doesn't simply state colour mixing formulae for rote memory. Instead, he does one better and explains the underlying, fundamental principles of colour and colour mixing. In this way, as he says throughout his book, you can think your way through colour mixing regardless of the colours you available to you.

Thorough, Pervasive and Thought-Provoking

The author does a fairly thorough analysis of the role of the media in American politics in recent history as well as touches on how special interests fit into that role. A disclaimer explaining that these analyses are replete with tidbits that not-so-covertly reveal his political ideas and leanings should be provided at the beginning of the book in bold neon font. Though not really what I might call a page-turner, it gets the job done, and future predictions certainly give one something to ponder in the period of nearly unpalatable political pandering. This book is sure to provide material to continue the rich tradition of polemicizing about the state of American politics.

Men Uncovered: An Important Historical Document

Reed Massengill continues to gather images and historical data that enhance his own very fine books of photography of the male nude. In UNCOVERED: RARE VINTAGE MALE NUDES he has gathered the works by ten brave men who had the courage to create images of the nude male before the censorship by the publishing firms changed following the 1969 Stonewall turnaround. While some of the photographers included in this monograph are well known and bridged that hiatus separating forbidden and completely accepted work, there are also 'new faces' whose work demands attention.

The 'uncovered male nudes' in this collection are often only partially revealed, as in the photographs by George Platt Lynes (1907 - 1955): positioning and shadows protect the eye form the full model image. Don Whitman (1916 - 1998) worked with body builders and carefully used the 'posing strap' to prevent viewer disdain. Likewise Al Urban (1917 - 1992) and Earle Forbes (1897 - 1970) focused on the posing Greek ideal for their Physique Images.

But with Plato (1925 - 2003) and John Shreeve Barrington (1920 - 1991) the element of eroticism in the art of male nude photography opened some doors: models were captured more in the privacy of the wild then in the studio and the freedom of posing choices expanded, but still with a sense of restraint. The images of Antonio Arabia (1931 - 1993) are more natural (models in the woodlands) and in many ways more erotic, and the images by Vulcan (b. 1921) and Robert Galster (1923 - 1991) invite the viewer to become involved in the scenario. Many of these images have never been published and Massengill provides a welcome bridge between the art of the male nude as popularized by the many practitioners of excellence today.

This is an important volume and one that will find a larger audience than many other books on the male nude: the images are less threatening to the viewer than the subsequent work of say Mapplethorpe et al. Massengill introduces each of the featured photographers with a brief but historically and artistically significant essay on both the artist and the particular constraints that surrounded the art of each. Very good book...

I really like this book. It has large photos of beautiful guys, generally full on exposure. Some of the poses are definitely period driven but some of them are outside. Over all the guys just look very good (not super models by today's standards) and are the types of guys you're much more likely to come across in a real world situation. Plus they're not manscaped, thankfully!

Vintage Male Nudes

If you remember those "Physique" magazines of the 1950's -- and even if you don't -- you will relish these pre-Stonewall nudes. Beautifully put together, this book of daring photos recalls a bygone era when the male nude was suppressed. The hunky models are photographed in a variety of settings -- everything from rugged outdoor shots to dramatic studio portraits. In retrospect, some of the picture are amusing while others are classical.

Here is a collection of over 100 vintage picture by 10 photographers that will delight both old and new generations. Any connoisseur of the male nude will love this book!

My favorite author of the Craft:

Morgan Daimler is easily becoming my favorite author on the craft. She packs these books FULL of her knowledge from her own experiences and well known and respected resources. Between her 2 books on fairycraft, her overflowing knowledge of especially Irish folklore and the Goddesses, The Morrigan and Brigid and the Gods and Goddesses honored within fairycraft I am learning more than I ever have about the craft. I'm not disregarding my own experiences thus far.. although I am understanding and processing many experiences more clearly through Morgan's writings and shared knowledge. She has a way with words and sharing her wisdom in a very straight to the point manner, meaning and matter. She is a fabulous teacher.

A tad dry but still interesting

Some parts were very good but I found it dry at times. Ms Daimler limits her discussion to the faeries of Celtic lore while I felt it could have used more European and Asian examples as well The supernatural work is huge and examples from other culture could bring a contrast between the types of the fairfolk. I don't agree with her moral ideology but I respect her opinions. Her spells were interesting and fun to read. I could have used illustrations as well but that may have come from budget. Oh and more spells to boot!

I really like this book

I really like this book. The whole book is good at defining what the beliefs. How to work her style of magic. It's not a cookie cutter book so much as it points to a certain belief. She leaves enough for the reader to explore further so the infomation becomes your own.

Wolfs and Dragons and Bears.......oh my!

I'm so conflicted I don't know where to begin.....

As with all of D'Elen's books I laughed and I cried again and again. I loved the grown up Sierra, she's matured into a beautiful woman/wolf and just the woman that a Dragon needs for his mate. I understood Sarns pain and why he did the things he did, but I still want to whoop him upside the head with a mountain size skillet for all the wasted time and pain.

I love that Sarn was willing to sarifice something that is monumentally important to him, however that's where my conflict comes in. I'm hoping that we find out in the next book that there's a nifty epilogue to this story, because there's a Goddess out there that still hasn't put her two cents worth in on this story.

Oh and by the way Miss D'Elen it's published now for all the world to see, I'll be reminding you again in the future that you promised me a Green Dragon ;)

Laughter and Tears

First get a box of tissues and set to the side as you will need them. The third book in the series has such a heart tugging story line that will leave you drained at the end. I was so prepared for the story to end one way and was blown away with the turn it took. Sarn and Sierra are both characters that you will fall in love with. I love how the author brings characters from her other series into this one. This allows the characters to grow in different but heart warming ways. Sierra's love for Sarn and his for her are wonderfully written. The humor that Sierra brings to the relationship was fun to read. Well worth taking the time to curl up in a comfy chair and read.

OMG……I Loved Sarn and Sierras story. Wow…..What an emotional ride I just took. I teetered a little on the edge at times. Im not even sure how to put it all into words. This book was so different from the first two. It tugged on my heart from the beginning well actually from the last chapter in Dragons Don’t (book 2) Love but it also had you in a fit of laughter. So I had a feeling this was going to be a roller coaster ride of a book. I could feel the torment that they both where going through as if I were on the outside looking in. This was not so how I expected this book to go and I say this in a good way. What an awesome surprise we all got. I so loveeeeeed that there where so many familiar characters from the Fang series (which I Love) in this book and we got to see what some of the fang gang had been up to. Really if you haven’t read this series you need to read it. It really is an awesome series. With a special love that only these dragons can have for their brides. Can I hardly wait for book 4 Tahrs story…Dragons Live Forever the last book in the series Nope….and I need it soon. D awesome job.

About the Author
Floyd Vogt is a sixth-generation carpenter and contractor. His family operated a small business devoted to all phases of home construction, and he began working in the family business at age 15. After completing a B.A. in chemistry at the State University of New York College at Oneonta, Mr. Vogt returned to the field as a self-employed remodeler. In 1985 he began teaching in the Carpentry program at the State University of New York, Delhi. He has taught many courses, including light framing, advanced framing, math, energy-efficient construction, finish carpentry, finish masonry, and estimating. Mr. Vogt is currently a professor in the Construction Design-Build Management bachelor's degree program, where his course responsibilities include residential construction, AutoCAD, construction seminar, and physical science applications. He has also served as a carpentry regional coordinator for Skills-USA and as a post-secondary Skills-USA student advisor. Mr. Vogt is also the co-author or CARPENTRY, 6E and he is a member of a local town planning board.

About the Author
G. Tyler Miller has written 62 textbooks for introductory courses in environmental science, basic ecology, energy, and environmental chemistry. Since 1975, Miller's books have been the most widely used textbooks for environmental science in the United States and throughout the world. They have been used by almost three million students and have been translated into eight languages. Miller has a professional background in chemistry, physics, and ecology. He has a PhD from the University of Virginia and has received two honorary doctoral degrees for his contributions to environmental education. He taught college for 20 years, developed one of the nation's first environmental studies programs, and developed an innovative interdisciplinary undergraduate science program before deciding to write environmental science textbooks full time in 1975. Currently, he is the president of Earth Education and Research, which is devoted to improving environmental education.

A great text for teaching Environmental Science

I began teaching with Miller's thicker text "living in the environment" but found that the main material was covered by this thinner and less expensive version. The graphics are helpful and the students enjoy reading the material as it is presented in an accessible and applicable fashion. The guest essays and case studies are from some of the top names speaking at conferences and so students are getting some really current views and information. Although there is not much of a lab book or teacher text-- there are plenty of other sources for field work and activity inspiration. The students also liked the website for activities and practice problems.

This looks and feels like a photocopied version of an original book (grey-scale pictures, missing front sheet (with ISBN number, publisher, edition, etc.). The binding is very poor and is already showing signs it won't make it much longer, the cover has some artisanal red parts imitating the original ones and glued on top of the cover itself). The book works ok but I'm skeptical of the seller's claim that this is an original endorsed by Cengage.
