A friend recommended this book to me and I am so very glad that they did because I thoroughly enjoyed taking this emotional journey with Laura.
Her book is written in such a way that I could not put it down, I just had to continue reading to see what happened next and how it all turned out for her.
Reading about her life, I now have a better understanding of what it must have been like growing up with no love or encouragement from your mother.
Laura has been through so much in her lifetime, her experiences gave her the strength and determination to try and make a better life for her daughter, whom she obviously loved very much.
Thank you Laura for sharing your story which I know will give people in your situation inspiration and hope.

My friend let me read this book and I am so happy that she did. The author kept me interested through the whole book. I could not put it down and when I did, I couldn't wait to get back to it. I read it in 2 days and can't wait till she writes another one. What a strong willed girl to go through all she did and be able to write and tell about it. She went through a lot some of the things she went through made me cry. You can tell she loves her daughter and was always looking out for her. What a great read and I can't wait to see if a movie is coming out. I will be sure to watch it.

Even though this book is best suited for a female audience

Even though this book is best suited for a female audience, the writer was able to draw me into the story. She was very descriptive in explaining the hardships of growing up in a large family, during and after the war, as I also was from a large family of little means. As I have spent time in Ipswich and the Suffolk countryside, I was able to relate to the area and different localities. My wife, who was mentionef in the book used to tell me of some of her experiences growing up with Laura, and this made her story very real for me. All in all, a very good read.

"Life after death"

For years I have dabbled back and forth as to whether thier is "Life after death" or if we die and are held "sleeping" till the day comes for us all to wake as it states in the bible.
Then my daughter passed away unexpectedly and I searched for answers to this mystery in my mind. I wanted so badly for her to be out there...for me to talk to,to know she was alright and unafraid. TALKING TO HEAVEN has helped me to heal a little of the questions as well as make me feel more comfortable about my daughters demise. I doubt I will ever stop missing this precious child of mine,a woman...but at least I feel that when i softly speak to her, she listens.
This book will help anyone with questions,grief or turmoil they are unsure about in thier lives.

Comforting and Healing

I am very aware that many people will believe this message and many will not. I want to take this review to a place that makes sense for most people. It doesn't matter if you believe James Van Praagh is talking to people in Heaven or not. To me, his take on Spiritual themes are very accurate. For me, a good guide to quality spiritual books is to look for those who promote love and not fear. If a book is filled with fear, this is not one that will promote peace and truth. I find his message filled with unconditioned awareness that is the essence of soul. In Mr. Praagh's words, I hear a strong sense of humble gratitude for his gift and not arrogance that would lead me to think he is false. I highly recommend this book to anyone searching for a sense of meaning and hope beyond this life. This book is not written to be a practical caregiving book. Many interesting and unique ideas about life after death

The jacket on this best-seller reads: "...a book that will forever change the way you look at death-and life." Not a believer in the occult or mediums, I must confess Author Van Praagh changed my views. A medium is described as a sort of middleman able to interpret thoughts, feelings and sights from spiritual to physical life, according to Van Praagh.
Author Van Praagh presents many interesting, unique ideas about life after death along with a do-it-yourself program for communicating with the spirit world. Discussions about this shadowy area of life never seem completely satisfying because there is no hard evidence those who have gone before exist in spirit form. The idea that print (and broadcast) dignify any subject, comes into play here. One cannot help but be reminded th:tt anybody can publish anything, particularly something we would all like to believe. On the other hand, what Mr. Van Praagh has to say is intriguingly plausible never forgetting he did a stint as a writer for Paramount.
Is there life after death? Yes. We possess a spiritual body identical to our physical body which, during the transition of death, is released from our physical body. This spiritual body is disease-free, eternal, and can move from one person to another through thought. Here on earth, we live in a three-dimensional world of energy which moves slowly. Spirits, on the other hand, are made up of molecules traveling at a much higher rate of speed, therefore freer, less dense and able to move anywhere through thought. A medium (Mr. Van Praagh) is able to go between the physical and spiritual worlds, pick up the faster vibrations of spirits, and interpret messages from them to this wor1d.
Several chapters relate three-way conversations by the author with his client, and the individual spirit contacted. The stories illustrate various typical problems brought about by the passing of a loved one ranging from a violent accident, drowning, murder, AIDS, to suicide and death by capital punish-ment. Particularly interesting are his thoughts about suicide and capital punishment.
Suicide, does not solve individual problems (they continue to exist in spirit). Capital punishment; it is wrong to take the life of another. Capital punish-ment continues the propagation of violence.
Loss; we all experience loss of many things in our fives but must use this experience to make ourselves healthier and to lead a more full life. This discussion is followed with a listing six steps one can take to overcome a sense of loss and move forward to a more satisfying, rewarding existence.
The concluding chapter delves into the area of making contact with the spirit world along with the thoughts and disciplines necessary to accomplish this feat. The author emphasizes that it is not a game; it takes enormous discipline, time and patience along with a sincere, deep desire to develop an ability as a spiritual go-between. Critical is meditation, described as a focus of consciousness from one state of being to another, or turning off the outside world to become more aware of our inside world. in meditation, we utilize cosmic energies that illuminate and energize the various well-defined spirit centers of the body.

A Forgotten Masterpiece

Kon-Tiki and I is out of print! Agh, that's appalling! It's one of the best books a kid could ever read. Hesselberg was Thor Heyerdahl's navigator on their voyage from Peru to Tahiti on a balsawood raft. Hesselberg is a great storyteller and caricaturist, and his illustrations of the trip are perfectly integrated with the deft, simple narrative. He's much more modest about it all than Heyerdahl--so much so that you may forget how unlikely it seemed to everyone but the crew that this absurd handmade craft would ever survive the voyage. Hesselberg's account is, among other things, very funny--and his illustrations make it even funnier. His sketch of himself dancing a hula in sheepskin pants makes it easy to see why the watching villagers were, as he tells it, reduced to gasping and moaning with laughter.
One of the few truly joyous books in the world. Get a copy if you can. If you have any kids, get them a copy at all costs.

A Must Read Treasure!!!

I read the original Kon Tiki book by Heyerdahl and absolutely loved it so when I discovered there was another book about this adventure written by Hesselberg, I just HAD to buy it too! When it arrived, I tore open the packaging and immediately sat down and read the entire book------what a wonderful, simple, entertaining account of that journey! Hesselberg demonstrates his humor and gives the reader a more personal view of what transpired. It parallels identically with Heyerdahl's book, even down to descriptions of aquatic life encountered as well as the building of the Kon Tiki raft. I highly recommend this enchanting book for all ages. What a treasure!!!!

A true classic that needs to be reprinted in English

What an incredibly charming book. Erik Hesselberg documents the 4000 mile Kon-Tiki balsa raft voyage which Thor Heyerdahl organized between Peru to Polynesia in 1947. This book - originally published in 1949 - is a true classic and definitely should be reprinted especially since the Norwegian government is producing a new Kon-Tiki Film to come out September 2012. No other book tells the story in such an entertaining succinct way. The sketches that Hesselberg made on the voyage are incredible. The book is biographical, historical, scientific - all rolled into one with charm and genuineness. Not just for kids. It's easy for grownups to love this book too. About 80 pages.

Best of the series

I wanted to give it 3 stars but because it is the best in the series, I gave it four. All the brothers and their half-sister get their own story. I've read them all, just not in order. Rebecca's character in THE BEST BRIDE, seemed somewhat stronger then in this one. Also she is in charge of a home for unwanted/orphaned children and can't remember to use birth control! And Austin, who brings his lovers to his home has no condoms anywhere? This just strained my belief somewhat. If you can get over this, the story moves along and develops with a nice pace and likable people.

Pleasant fast read - steamy romance

This book has a very nice flow -- it is a quick read -- very nice characters. The only negative -- I felt that the man (Austin) was a bit too victimized near the end. He insisted on the marriage and then spent a good portion of the rest of the book trying to talk himself out of it... Well the ending was very happy....

Austin and Renecca's story

Sadly this book is.not on Kindle, I ha to hunt for it in oder to complete he Homeown Heartbreaker series. Austinand Rebecca's story in many ways drags on in places, his mysterious past never totally explained, despite his sharing bits an pieces with Rebecca. The story kept.me glued to tbe pages and aftr reading the rest of the series I had to know his story.
